COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP SUITABLE FOR? Suitable for those with some basic drawing skills who want to learn how, or anyone who wishes to improve and develop their portrait painting. This course is for adults 18+ ABOUT THE COURSE: The aim of this exciting Portrait course is to give students opportunity to focus on some of the key challenges faced when painting a portrait. Each week we work from a live model will focus on a different element of portraiture. The aim of this will be to develop your understanding and enhance your technical skills. This will include areas such as: - Structure and placement of features - Understanding values in portraiture - Dynamic angles and lighting - Expression, feeling and further development. Matt will demonstrate techniques and then set timed exercises. He will also give one to one advice and feedback. The course has been designed primarily with charcoal drawing and oil painting in mind. However if you have more comfortable in other mediums you are more than welcome to use these. ABOUT THE TUTOR: Matt Waruszynski is an oil painter specialising in figurative work and portraits. He is interested in exploring how the body and face tell the story of our lives. Our body keeps the score of all of our traumas, joys, struggles and triumphs and he seeks to use painting and drawing as a way to understand and tell these stories. He also fascinated by the materiality of paint which he likes to apply paint thickly in an impasto style and sees his method as sculpting with paint. With a background in animation, he is drawn to fast, energetic marks to give a sense of life and movement in his work. He was won the Sir Philip Trousdell Prize for Portraiture and was For more information please visit: https://www.mw-artist.com/ https://www.instagram.com/mattw_art MATERIALS/ EQUIPMENT TO BRING: If you are joining the class for the first time, please bring: An A3 white cartridge drawing pad (with a hard backing board) A couple of soft drawing pencils (such as 3B and 6B) Willow Charcoal ( a box of mixed thicknesses is best) Putty Rubber. MATERIALS PROVIDED: No materials or equipment are provided, although drawing boards and easels are available to borrow during sessions. LOCATION: Drawing Room. The Drawing Room is situated on the ground floor of Westbury Arts Centre. Accessible parking spaces are available to anyone who requires them. We are happy to offer assistance to visitors wherever possible, upon prior arrangements.
