COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP SUITABLE FOR? This is the perfect portrait painting course for those who are new to portraiture or looking to improve. This workshop is for adults 18+ ABOUT THIS 1 DAY WORKSHOP: In this 1 day workshop participants will have the opportunity to learn and strengthen their foundational portrait skills through a series of exercises. These will include: -Measuring and proportions -Accurately depicting features -The structure and basic anatomy of the head -Tonal values These foundations form the basis of all portraiture and are suitable for those who are new to portraiture or looking to improve. Under the tuition of Matt Waruszynski, students will work through a range of studies and will work from 2 live models and from photographic reference. Matt will give practical demonstrations and then set timed exercises. He will also give one to one advice and feedback. The aim is to encourage each student with their individual approach and journey. By the end of the day students will have had the opportunity to work on multiple drawings and at least 1 monochrome painting in mind. You are welcome to use other mediums, if you wish. ABOUT THE TUTOR: Matt Waruszynski is an oil painter specialising in figurative work and portraits. He is interested in exploring how the body and face tell the story of our lives. Our body keeps the score of all of our traumas, joys, struggles and triumphs and he seeks to use painting and drawing as a way to understand and tell these stories. He is also fascinated by the materiality of paint which he likes to apply paint thickly in an impasto style and sees his method as sculpting with paint. With a background in animation, he is drawn to fast, energetic marks to give a sense of life and movement in his work. He won the Sir Philip Trousdell Prize for Portraiture and was a recent finalist in Raw Umber Studio Image Prize.
