COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR. This course is perfect for beginner artists—whether you're completely new to oil painting, have some prior experience, or are seeking a refresher to enhance your skills. ABOUT THE COURSE: This five-week course will give you the opportunity to get too grips with the very versatile and mobile medium of oil paint. You will start with a limited colour palette before moving onto full colour and mixing and creating your own colours. In one session you will create a series small oil paint studies and in others the focus will one main painting. The topics will be varied, some seasonal, still life, as well as exploring other artists styles, techniques, and approaches. You will gain an understanding of traditional oil techniques, for example Impasto, Scumbling, Glazing, Underpainting by the end of the 5 weeks. ABOUT THE TUTOR: Tutor: Julia Roach has a degree in Painting from Canterbury College of Art and then went onto gain a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Newcastle-Upon Tyne. Julia has over 35 years of experience of teaching Painting and Drawing too both to adults and children. In her own practice drawing is an intrinsic part of her creative process, and she enjoys using a variety of mediums in her artwork, her work has been described as both illustrative and playful. LOCATION: Studio 15 is situated on the ground floor of Westbury Arts Centre. Accessible parking spaces are available.
