Westbury Arts Centre

You may have come across Nicky Hunter when visiting her studio or attending her watercolour painting classes at Westbury Arts Centre where she enjoys nurturing the skills of local watercolour enthusiasts. You may not know that Nicky also is in demand across the UK as a tutor on watercolour courses that take place in some of the most beautiful parts of the country. You too could join these if you want to treat yourself to a painting holiday in a beautiful and inspiring location with great food and accommodation.

This spring Nicky will start her creative travels in Norfolk teaching watercolour classes in flowers and wildlife painting at a residential art break at Big Sky Arts in Norfolk. This will be her third-year teaching at this prestigious luxury painting school. Spending five days really gives students a chance to immerse themselves and advance their skills whilst indulging in  a revitalising break.

In April Nicky teaches a one-day workshop for the Field Studies Council on the historic site of Flatford mill, a well-known location in the stunning Dedham Vale along with Willy Lots cottage from John Constable paintings.

Then Nicky can be found in St Osyth in Essex tutoring a two-day course at one of her favourite locations, apart from Westbury of course, Watershed Studios.

After Easter Nicky and her paintbrush travel to the west of the country where she will inspire students to paint swans on day course at The White Horse Bookshop in the beautiful Wiltshire town of Marlborough.  Followed by a day tutoring at Missenden Abbey School of Art in south Buckinghamshire which offers lovely grounds to wander around for further inspiration.

In June Nicky will be teaching a three-day course in the beautiful Wye Valley hosted by Alpha Painting Holidays.

The rest of 2025 Nicky will be travels from Brighton right up to Shropshire, where she is originally from, to host paint demonstrations and workshops as the guest artist for art societies.

Nicky says: “I feel so blessed to have to opportunity to teach in such a range of interesting and beautiful places and be hosted on programmes alongside my artist peers around the country, but there’s is no place like Westbury. I’ve had a studio here for 10 years and enjoy nurturing my students who come regularly for months, some for years to learn with me and develop their skills on their own watercolour journeys. Students make progress artistically in the lovely environment and make great friendships too.”
