NICKY HUNTER

Textile designer & painter

Nicky in studio photo_cropped .jpg

Nicky Hunter is well known for her signature large scale contemporary watercolour floral paintings, but equally inspired by a range of subjects, aiming to capture them in a vibrant impressionistic style. Exploring the transparent and lucid qualities of watercolour whilst keeping colours clear and bright are key elements in Nicky’s artworks which are inspired by nature and ignited by colour, with a sense of enchanted realism. She believes wherever there is a colourful subject illuminated with interesting shapes and contrasts in light & shadow there is potential for a painting that sings with vibrancy and expression.

Nicky is a full time working artist with her studio and regular watercolour painting workshops hosted at Westbury Arts Centre in Milton Keynes. She sells her artwork through Buckinghamshire based galleries, and has also exhibited at The Gallery Holt, a distinguished gallery in Norfolk showcasing well established UK artists.

The development of her painting & illustration skills & foundation for her love of painting florals comes from studying a diploma in art then a degree in textile design from Demontfort University, Leicester, leading to a varied & successful career as a textile designer spanning over 2 decades; creating embroidered and printed patterns for international fashion designers and well known British & global brands.

Nicky is an encouraging tutor who enthusiastically inspires others in her regular workshops at Westbury , aiming to help others enjoy and progress their skills in watercolour and other related painting and drawing mediums.
